Radius Security Launches New Central Monitoring Station

Submitted by: Admin

(Show News Item)

Vancouver Based Radius Security announced the opening of our 24-hour Central Monitoring Station located in Richmond, B.C. As security experts in Vancouver BC, our goal is to provide our clients with superior service and the utmost in quality control and technological advancements. Owning and operating our own Central Monitoring Station gives us full control over the security systems service we provide. Why? Because the safety and security of our clients' homes and businesses is dependent upon our Central Monitoring Station receiving the signal a security system sends when it detects an intrusion or fire.

How? A security system sends its signal to our Central Monitoring Station and our operator immediately informs the police, fire department or ambulance. Our central station, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is staffed by operators who are trained to respond to emergencies, alert the proper authorities and dispatch help using state-of-the-art equipment.

When? Our Central Monitoring Station receives a signal when a security system is triggered at a home or business - whether it's a fire, an intrusion or a personal emergency. The operators identify the problem and then follow pre-determined instructions on how to respond to the emergency. In B.C., more than 80% of security monitoring is conducted by central stations located outside of the province and 60% of monitoring is conducted by third parties on a contract basis. We are the only fire protection and security company in Greater Vancouver that owns and operates a local Central Monitoring Station.

By operating our own Central Monitoring Station in Greater Vancouver, we offer our clients local knowledge, local expertise and the latest technological advancements in security service.

Radius Security is a Vancouver Fire and Security company that has been protecting homes and businesses in Greater Vancouver since 1948.

Two Suspects Apprehended - Sovereign in Metrotown

Submitted by: Admin

(Show News Item)

Vancouver, BC, October 21, 2014 -- Shortly after 1 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, the Burnaby RCMP apprehended two suspects at the Sovereign, a 45-storey mixed-use high rise nearing completion at Willingdon and Kingsway.

“We observed two white males entering the construction site through a fence,” says Sam Alderson, a manager at Radius Security, the local firm monitoring the site’s video surveillance cameras. After security personnel on the ground confirmed that there were footprints heading into the building, police were dispatched. Both males were removed from the site, one of them in handcuffs.

Located at 4508 Hazel Street, Axiom Bosa Properties’ Sovereign development is Burnaby’s tallest high-rise tower and is scheduled for completion in November 2014.

Radius Security is the security division of Vancouver Fire group of Companies. Radius Security’s head office is located at 22131 Fraserwood Way in Richmond. The company operates throughout the Lower Mainland.

The security system in place at Sovereign uses “intelligent” security technology known as “remote guarding.” Through the use of video analytics, video from a construction site is continually fed in real time through a computer which analyzes the images displayed and compares them against a memory bank of 50,000 objects. The security robot on site, dubbed “Rosie,” alerts operators at a central monitoring station whenever it detects any suspicious images.

How Video Can Improve Construction Site Safety

Stuff goes missing. Copper wiring and pipes. Power tools. Applicances. Lumber, steel, stone. Excavators, hackhoes, pick-ups. pretty much anything on a job site can and has been stolen. It's a fact of life - or is it? Do construction companies need high-tech security solutions to stop thieves and vandals?

"It depends," says Rob Baxter, a director of the Partnership for Priority Video Alarm Response (PPVAR). " Every job site, even residential ones, should have a secure fencing and lighting. Hardening your target may discourage the guys who break in on impulse. The guy with the pick-up truck, the teens out to make trouble.

But, he adds, for the thief with a plan, companies need a plan. “Sadly, too often, thefts are inside jobs. Screen your employees carefully and run a criminal background check as a standard part of your hiring policy. It doesn’t hurt to ask your subs and trades to do the same.”

False Alarm Rates

Alarmageddon?

Submitted by: Admin

(Show News Item)

In this era of do-it-yourself and monitor-it-yourself, central stations must deliver more than deterrence to stay relevant. - Rob Baxter

Do It Yourself or “DIY” is explod- ing with the arrival of Google and Apple in the connected home scene. In 2014, Google invested nearly 10 times the RMR of the entire SDM 100 — $4 billion for the acquisition of three companies, Nest, Dropcam, and Revolv — just to enter the game and promote Mon- itor It Yourself or “MIY” for consum- ers who don’t need or want a central station. Google sells “deterrence” as a security feature that bolts on to its Next and Dropcam suite of services.

This is “Alarmageddon” (a term coined by Larry Folsom of I-View Now), a frontal assault discarding the central station from the alarm industry business model. MIY rep- resents a unique threat, where the younger demographic concerned about personal security is willing to do it on their own with the help of new technology.

Catch n Release - From High Fashion to Orange Jumpers

Submitted by: Admin

(Show News Item)

As a “muse” for fashion designer Calvin Klein and a much-published model for Giorgio Armani, Christian Dior, Valentino Garavani and the like, Sam Alderson had millions buying fancy duds. So did fellow model Joslyn Baxter, now Alderson’s 17-year wife. Today, they aspire to put light-fingered folk into orange jail jumpsuits. That’s via Radius Security, a division of Vancouver Fire Prevention, which the Baxter family acquired in 1977. Joslyn is sales-market VP. Sam is Radius’s sales manager. That firm uses video-analytical technology to put what Sam calls “a virtual fence” around such outdoor assets as construction sites, auto dealerships, etc. He claimed the resulting one apprehension for two detections is leveraged 30 times by discouraging other break-ins. Regarding those nabbed, Joslyn said she and Sam joined the John Howard Society that aids released prisoners. “We put them away, so we’re trying to help rehabilitate them,” she said.
