Lock It Up

July 11th, 2014 | by admin admin | in Security Advice |    1   comments

home_burglar.jpgThis summer, whenever you head out to work or to play, remember to lock up. According to Vancouver Police Department, about 50 per cent of the city’s residential break-ins during July and August are a result of thieves entering through an open window or unlocked door.

Locking up is such a simple, sensible way to deter crime. Just add a few extra minutes to your routine so you make it a habit of closing your windows, locking your patio door and bolting your front and back doors. Then, when you’re out and about either by car or by bicycle, remember to lock your vehicle or secure your bicycle. If you’re in a hurry, lock up anyway! If you’re concerned about returning home to a hot apartment, lock up anyway!

This summer, don’t be an easy target. Lock up, prevent crime and be safe.

  1. Lock your house, apartment or condo even if you’re running out to do a quick errand. Even if you live in a quiet part of town.
  2. Close and lock your windows, even on the second and third floors.
  3. Lock your front door when you’re working outdoors in the backyard or garden.
  4. Lock your vehicle – at home, at work, at the grocery store.
  5. Lock your garage, garden shed, workshop, storage locker, etc.
